Unfortunately, I had a disappointing experience with a clinic that presents itself as “The leading vein treatment clinic in the Baltics.” Approximately one or two weeks in advance, I booked a laser procedure for the removal of capillaries in the décolleté area for 10 August. I do not live in Latvia and was in Riga only for a short period, so I had specifically arranged my already busy schedule in order to attend this appointment. When I arrived at the clinic at the scheduled time, Dr. Ineta Mariņa informed me that this procedure cannot be performed during the summer at all. This raises an obvious question: why did the clinic accept and confirm a booking for a procedure that could not be carried out in August, and why did no one contact me beforehand to cancel or reschedule the appointment? As a result, I unnecessarily spent both valuable time and money travelling to the clinic. I fully understand that mistakes can happen and that perhaps the receptionist who made the booking was unaware of the relevant seasonal restrictions. However, what disappointed me most was the way the situation was handled by the doctor. The doctor’s neta Mariņa manner felt dismissive and even slightly indignant, as though I had done something unreasonable by coming to the clinic in summer and should have known better myself. This was particularly inappropriate given that the clinic had accepted and confirmed the appointment in the first place. From a high-end clinic that describes itself as “The leading vein treatment clinic in the Baltics,” charges premium prices, and therefore creates an expectation of a high European standard of service, I expected a very different approach: an acknowledgement of the clinic’s mistake, a sincere apology for the wasted time and expense, and perhaps an alternative solution, a discount on a future procedure, or another reasonable gesture of goodwill. Unfortunately, none of this was offered.
