The rose sort "Rose Damascena Mill" was introduced to
Bulgaria from the far east of Persia in the 14th century. The warm
climate of southern Bulgaria's slopes was favourable for the spread of the

the "Rose Damascena Mill" roses are grown for the perfume and
cosmetics industry.

rose oil from Bulgaria is a unique product. 3000 kilograms of rose petals are
needed to get one kilogram of these oils. They are collected by 150 people from
5:00 till 10:00 in the morning because during this period the rose petals have
the highest content of essential oil. The unique technology of oil extraction
(double distillation) and the more than 2000 active substances in oil make it a global
standard and an integral part of the perfume and cosmetics industry. This oil
is often called "Bulgarian liquid gold".
